Artist Statement
One of the most important thing in my life is news.I am very interested to news It could be anything I have been studying also media in Hunter College. I have taken various media courses. There are many different type of news on the media. For instance, some people are interested to sport news, gossip news or crime news. It depends what kind of news you are interested.
I am mostly interested to global news. It is hard to find a newspaper or a website that is focus on national news in the United States. Most newspapers in the New York area consider local news instead of national news. For instance, last two weeks ago, Prime minister of France Sarkozy said he will scare to strike Iran if they keep producing nuclear weapons. It was one of the important news in Europe and Middle east. However, I couldnt see this news on any local news papers such as New York Post or Daily News. Only, there were several paragraphs information about this news on The New York Times.
I do compare many Turkish news and news from New York region. There are some similarities about these news but only the the New York Times takes my attention. On the Daily News or the New York Post there are many news about crimes, murders or scandals. Those news takes place on the paper but it takes take place in our minds. How many murder crimes we read, in our lives and how many of them we still remember. Not many of them but the news about the politics and other nations we will still remember.
As a result, one day after I get my degree, I want to be a person who can follow international news and inform them to the America. I see that most people in America dont know much about other nations. There should be more news form other countries. There should be more news that people are going to discuss about them. We learnt that media does not teach us what to think, but it teaches us what to think about. Mostly in the U.S people dont know what other countries think about American politics. In 1995 while hundreds of thousands people are protesting American big corporations in Turkey, they were called hippies, communists by all Americans. However, today Wall Street protesters are heros.
